Welcome

Welcome to this year's Model UN! We are very excited that you have decided to join us in representing our school for the Model UN! I hope that you have fun, learn a lot and enjoy being part of the experience! We have been assigned some pretty terrific countries and we look forward to exploring these places together.

Purpose of Model UN

Model UN gives students from Whitehall the chance to join in with students from all over Ohio to study and discuss global issues. Students will be involved with researching other countries, participating in oral debates, while also gaining experience in writing position papers. The program will encourage the development of critical thinking, demonstrative and writing skills.

Model UN is an interactive educational experience that teaches about the United Nations in a memorable and enjoyable way.

Model UN Process

Model UN simulates the UN system of negotiation and diplomacy about critical world issues. Student delegates represent member states in the committees of the UN General Assembly. Students will role play as “ambassadors” of assigned countries as they debate current issues on the UN’s agenda from the perspective of that nation. They plot strategy, negotiate with supporters, navigate the UN’s rules of procedure, and write resolutions that are voted on to become UN Mandates.

The process educates participants in the functions of international debate, negotiation, and diplomacy. Model UN helps produce informed global citizens who better understand the decisions their nations make and how those decisions affect politics locally and globally.
